LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan directed officers to ensure the security of sensitive processions and gatherings of Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) by utilising all available resources.
He expressed these views while presiding over a video-link conference with RPOs and DPOs at the Central Police Office on Thursday.
He said all the RPOs and DPOs should personally monitor security arrangements and traffic management so that the public could participate in the celebrations of Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) without any fear or apprehensions. He said special security arrangements should be ensured for minority places of worship on the routes of central Milad processions.
Metal detectors, walkthrough gates and cameras must be used for the security of processions in sensitive districts. He urged search, sweep and combing operations in the vicinity of important mosques, shrines, markets and religious places.
He also directed a special protection unit to remain alert for the security of foreign guests visiting the province for the Kartar Pur Corridor ceremony.

The IGP said controlling crime was a major responsibility of the police and any officer unable to fulfill his or her duty would be removed from field posting.
He also directed the DPOs to review the pending cases of overseas Pakistanis and conclude them in their supervision.
He further directed intensifying the crackdown against drug peddlers and intelligence-based operations in the vicinity of educational institutes’ hostels and other places so that all such elements could be brought to justice.
During the meeting, Additional IG Operations Inam Ghani provided details on security arrangements for Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) celebrations. He said that in all districts, a total of 62,274 officers and officials were being deputed for the security of 1,585 Mehfil-e-Milad and 2,363 processions across Punjab.
He also appreciated the crackdown against drug peddlers and directed to speed up the crackdown to permanently eliminate the elements involved in the heinous trade.
