KARACHI: Commuters in Karachi continued to face inconvenience as Club Road- one of the city's busiest thoroughfares- remained blocked for traffic on Tuesday. The road was blocked due to repair work, following the collapse of a sewerage line and the formation of a sinkhole on the track a day earlier.

Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) official Ashad Javed said that the repair work will take about three to four days to complete, adding that the collapsed sewerage line was almost 60 years old and covered a length of 150 feet.

As KWSB personnel worked all day long on Tuesday to replace the damaged sewerage line, the flow of traffic was affected near Hotel Metropole, Fawwara Chowk and surrounding areas, as well as on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Fatima Jinnah Road and Aiwan-e-Saddar Road.

Traffic police officials were deployed at various spots to divert the traffic approaching Club Road to other routes.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, those travelling from Metropole Hotel towards PIDC Chowk are to take a detour to Fawwara Chowk to approach the location and those travelling towards Metropole Hotel from PIDC Chowk can approach the latter via Ziauddin Road. He said that while it is easier to control the traffic in the morning, it becomes increasingly difficult in the evening due to rush hour.
