KARACHI: The commissioner of Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Syed, said that outstanding dues to petrol pumps by defunct towns and city government will soon be paid. To avert any problems, civic bodies should continue using fuel, especially for ambulances, fire brigades and solid waste management vehicles. For immediate coordination between the police and district administration, he directed the DCs to hold district officer meetings. The ex-town administration is now under the control of the DCs. The commissioner said that organisations must dump all garbage in landfill sites. Mechanical sweeping machinery was used to clean the streets on Wednesday. The minister said this while he was visiting the city to check up on cleanliness, civic facilities and the law and order situation with deputy commissioners. Moreover, the repair and maintenance of roads and street lights has also started.
