Mengal calls for unity to curb harassment cases

BNP-M chief expresses his concern over the repercussions of the incident on girls’ education.

QUETTA: Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has described the blackmailing scandal of the University of Balochistan (UoB)  as the most shocking event in the history of the province and called for unity among all stakeholders to prevent such heinous crimes.

“The sexual harassment and blackmailing case has shaken us and has had an adverse effect on the reputation of the province’s mother university,” Mengal said, while urging people of Balochistan to participate in the BNP-M’s rally against the scandal.

Talking to the party’s central cabinet and workers, the BNP-M chief expressed his concern over the repercussions of the incident on girls’ education.

“After UoB scandal, parents have lost their trust on the province’s biggest varsity and are now reluctant to send their girls to pursue higher education,” he added.

The BNP-M has demanded strict punishment for the goons involved in harassing and blackmailing female students through secretly recorded videos.

It said the culprits have also violated the tribal and cultural norms of Balochistan.
