Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the varsity's Malir campus, Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah said that the provincial government would soon complete the required infrastructure for Education City. He lauded the decision to establish an environmental science department as according to him, students and teachers would be in an ideal setting to observe the changing environmental conditions.
The varsity's vice chancellor, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, said that the reason behind shifting this department first was to establish an environmentally friendly campus before shifting other departments. "All the students of SMIU will plant trees and look after them," he said, adding that the area would provide an ideal environment for SMIU teachers and students to observe changes in the environment.
