ISLAMABAD: The current government’s economic reforms would revive the country’s economy, remarked Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, adding that investor confidence had improved following corrective measures in the economy.

Talking to Australian High Commissioner Dr Geoffrey Shaw on Wednesday, Bakhtiar discussed bilateral relations and foreign investment in various sectors in Pakistan, especially in Gwadar. The minister emphasised that ongoing phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would bring socio-economic benefits for the people.

He said CPEC offered enormous potential for boosting the national economy and reducing poverty, adding “CPEC has now entered its second phase with focus on poverty alleviation, agriculture and business-to-business industrial cooperation.”

The minister informed the Australian high commissioner about the steps taken by the government for the welfare of people. “The government is focusing on promotion of ICT, artificial intelligence, tourism and agriculture,” he added.
