Capt Safdar arrested by police on 'hate speech' charge

PML-N decries arrest, claims Safdar under arrest for supporting Nawaz

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar was arrested by police late Monday.

The PML-N leader and son-in-law of incarcerated former premier Nawaz Sharif was arrested on a hate speech charge.

Safdar was intercepted and arrested by police when he was en route to Lahore from Islamabad. The PML-N leader was reportedly was returning after visiting Nawaz after his health deteriorated.

He is expected to be presented in court on Tuesday. The court will decide whether to detain the leader or release him Safdar is on interim bail till October 26.

PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that Safdar was "arrested because he was raising his voice for Nawaz’s freedom".

“This shows the PTI government’s lack of vision,” she said. “If anyone should be arrested on hate speech, it should be Imran Khan whose video evidence is available.”
