Three girls’ colleges to be built in Rawalpindi

One to be built in the Reheemabad area, one in Saddar and one in Dhoke Dalal area

RAWALPINDI: A national assembly lawmaker from the garrison city on Monday stated that the government is working to build as many as three new girls colleges in Rawalpindi.

This was stated by the Parliamentary Secretary for Narcotics Control, MNA Sheikh Rashid Shafique.

Noting that the colleges were part of the government’s efforts to promote girls’ education in the region, he told the media that one college is currently being built in Saddar Area. Noting that 70 per cent of the college had been built before construction was halted, Shafique promised that it will be completed soon.

He added that the Pakistan Railways has released a grant of Rs20 million for the project while the prime Minster’s Fund had also released Rs50 million for it. The parliamentary secretary further said that a second girls’ college will be built on Railways land in the Reheemabad area, one of the most thickly populated areas of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board. The third college is expected to be built along Khayaban-e-Sir Syed in the Dhoke Dalal area.

He said that Federal Railways Minister had worked hard to ensure that the Government Post-graduate Girls College in Satellite Town is upgraded to the status of a university.
