Six killed, 30 injured as bus returning from Bhit Shah overturns in Hyderabad
Police says the vehicle has been impounded and efforts to arrest the driver are afoot
HYDERABAD:
A bus carrying devotees of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai overturned on Wednesday, leaving six persons dead and around 30 injured. The incident occurred on the National Highway in Moro taluka of Naushehro Feroze district.
The bus was returning from Bhit Shah, Matiari district, where the devotees attended the three-day urs celebrations of the Sufi poet. The passengers were being transported back to Sukkur district from where most of them belonged.
The rescue operation began after around half an hour of the accident, according to the injured passengers.
National Highway and Motorway Police and volunteers of the Edhi Foundation shifted the injured and the deceased to local hospitals.
The deceased have been identified as Shaukat Shaikh, Mumtaz Shaikh, Dholanh Shaikh, Deedar Abbassi, Ameer Bux Langha and Abdullah Jatoi. Three of them belonged to Sukkur, two were from Khairpur district and one was from Ghotki district.
Three injured passengers, Qadir Baksh, Habibullah Jogi and Ali Pathan, were shifted in critical condition to Peoples Medical University Hospital in Nawabshah. The bus driver escaped from the site.
Police said that the vehicle has been impounded and they are trying to arrest the driver.
