Ringleader of ‘twin brothers’ gang held for robbing Rawalpindi pharmacies

Police say accused would disguise as medical representatives and target stores with good sales

RAWALPINDI: Police claim to have arrested the ringleader of the “twin brothers” gang that used to commit robberies at pharmacies in guise of medical sales representatives in the city.

The accused was caught after he brought a medicine distribution vehicle following a robbery at a pharmacy in Naseerabad area to hide his crime. On the store owner’s suspicion that he resembled the culprit, police interrogated the overconfident swindler, who turned out to be the ringleader of the gang.

Potohar Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Ali said the accused, identified as Shahab, is the mastermind behind robberies at the city’s medical stores. His twin brother, Ishaq, has runaway and raids are being conducted to bring him to book also, he added.

After taking Shahab into custody from the crime scene, police further investigated the accused and obtained his call data which revealed his identity.

SP Ali said the accused has confessed to commit petty street crimes prior to joining the pharmaceutical field and subsequently establishing a dacoit gang to rob medical stores. The accused used to target pharmacies with good sales only, he added.

The City Police Officer, Faisal Rana, while commending SP Potohar Syed Ali over the arrest of ringleader of the "twin brothers" gang, said that, such gangs escape from the police for the guise they have adopted due to which the crime tends to increase.

He also directed the officials to arrest the other member of the gang and recover the looted goods at the earliest.
