LAHORE:
A seminar to initiate dialogue on the elimination of child and early-age marriage was held in a private hotel on Friday. The event was organised by Shirkat Gah Women’s Resource Centre, a women’s rights organisation, in collaboration with the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW).
Member of Provincial Assembly Uzma Kardar was the chief guest on the occasion. Shirkat Gah Executive Director Farida Shaheed, NCSW Chairperson Khawar Mumtaz, Directorate of Women Development WDD director and others were among the attendees.
Changing patterns of child marriage
The participants discussed different aspects of the issue and the multi-pronged approach to address the issue.
Recommendations discussed in the day-long gathering included a requirement of CNICs of both the bride and groom, allocation of adequate budget for effective laws and robust monitoring mechanisms to ensure legislative compliance.
