LHC dismisses Meesha Shafi's appeal in Ali Zafar harassment case

Singer had earlier appealed Lahore's top court to overturn Governor Punjab's decision to dismiss her complaint

Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed singer Meesha Shafi's appeal against Governor Punjab's decision to reject her plea against Ali Zafar.

According to Express News, the Overload singer had earlier filed a complaint with Lahore's top court to overturn Punjab Governor Rafiq Rajwana's decision to dismiss her complaint under Women Harassment Act against Zafar.



The hearing of Meesha Shafi v Ali Zafar case was conducted at LHC today. Shafi had filed a complaint against Punjab Governor's decision after her appeal was rejected by the Governor on August 1.

Previously, Meesha’s lawyers had informed the publication that the singer had filed a complaint against Zafar with the ombudsman under the sexual harassment at workplace ordinance.



However, since the ombudsman ruled that matter did not fall under sexual harassment at the workplace, the matter had to be taken to the governor.

Her appeal with the ombudsman was rejected on July 11 as Meesha wasn’t an actual employee at the time the harassment allegedly took place and so, was not bound by any formal contract. Therefore, the case does not fall under the said act.

Last month, Shafi filed Rs2 billion indemnity charges against the fellow artist.
