ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) has completed the electrification of 1,560 houses and nine coast guard checkposts with the help of wind energy in Sindh and Balochistan. PCRET procured 14 small wind turbines from China with a capacity of 300 to 500 watts each and installed them in the coastal areas of Balochistan and Sindh for performance evaluation, official sources said on Monday. Besides this, under the project “Electrification of Remote Coastal Villages Using Wind Energy”, 1,600 houses were electrified by installing 155 micro-wind generators. Under the project, wind turbines were imported from China, USA, Spain, Germany and Australia, officials added. It is estimated that at least 650MW can be generated from wind power in the country.
