RAWALPINDI: An officer of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has been suspended for misbehaving with a motorist who was filming their discriminatory behavior on Monday. According to a video that went viral on the internet, the police stopped a car for exceeding the speed limit on GT Road between Mandara and Gujjar Khan. The driver got down and started recording video, complaining of why other vehicles were not being stopped for the same offence. As the police officials explained why the other vehicle was not stopped for over-speeding, a fine-collection unit’s official can be seen approaching the motorist and pouncing on his mobile phone. The cellular phone dropped from the citizen’s hands and fell on the ground in the process. But the whole episode was recorded in the phone’s memory. Later, NHMP DIG took notice of the incident and suspended the related officer. In this regard, the NHMP spokesperson told The Express Tribune that the issue emerged due to a misunderstanding. However, the inquiry for uncovering details of the matter was underway.
