University of Peshawar students bring creativity to fore

Communication and paintings lure visitors at TCC Hall

PESHAWAR: Some more than a dozen stalls showing painting and communications designs allure university students, faculty, art lovers and city’s socialite audience at the University of Peshawar TCC Hall on Tuesday.

The two days art exhibition showcase students BS final years thesis in painting and communication disciplines.

“The art work showcased here is oil and water colour painting and communication for branding, hoarding, billboards, and posters making,” Department of Arts and Design head Dr Sher Ali remarked on the occasion.

He pointed out that these artifacts and designs are produced from idea to conceptualisation and execution independently by students.

Zarmeena Mehsud, BS final year student stall attracted many visitors who showcased oil painting of “Landscape of Mahodand”. She thanked Peshawar’s artist Ali Sajid for mentoring her art to maturity.

Another painter Barekhna paintings portrayed Pashtun culture from drapery, footwear, cuisine and folk culture. “I am really happy to see my work and glad to see people appreciation because I think common things around us are more beautiful,” Barekhna said.

Another student from Chitral, Habib Ali themed work entitled “Exploring Kalashi people“ received appreciation from visitors. Asim, the communication student, portrayed UoP branding image by UoP road II model and academic block with a perspective of a graphic designer.

Usman Karim Awan presented a thesis portraying reasons for drug abuse among youth in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.H e went on to bring through posters the factors like fear, influence, boredom, and curiosity through the different states of minds as chief reasons.

Another student Hamayun Sami Ullah Baig's thesis entitled ‘Exploring Gilgit Baltistan ‘ depicted Desoi and Ganesh areas where tourists can be pulled due to its less awareness of the areas.

UoP to have an art gallery soon

The University of Peshawar will have an art gallery soon that will showcase the works of the students of the Arts and Design department, said Dr Sher Ali.

He assured the students that under construction incubation centre will house art, textile products, and paintings to attract art lovers of this historic and iconic city of Peshawar. He shared his views while visiting the student's thesis exhibition on the second day at TCC Hall.
