Shaniera Akram wants you to know she has a name

Shaniera Akram has taken to Twitter to confirm she has a name, and it's not 'Wasim Akram's wife.'

The controversy started when the Australian beauty was mentioned on one of the panels at the 6th Islamabad Literature Festival, which feaured Fasi Zaka, Ali Aftab Saeed, George Fulton and Nadeem F. Paracha. Paracha repeatedly referred to Shaniera was 'Wasim Akram's wife' rather than by her name.

A woman in the audience then chimed in, saying, "She has a name." The exclamation was followed by an applause from the audience. Responding to the incident, Paracha explained that it wasn't intentional., "I actually forgot her name, and then wasn't sure what it was. I thought it would be silly if I pronounced it wrong," she said.

Naturally, Shaniera has something to say about the incident on Twitter. "Who is this amazing woman? #SheHasAName You go girl!" she wrote.

Shaniera also responded to another tweet that took aim at her. "Yeah because Shaniera is a big celebrity and we should remember her name," one user wrote sarcastically. Shaniera replied, "If you are talking about someone on stage at a literacy festival you should at least give them the dignity of a name. And I am not a celebrity but I have earned my name, thank you very much."

Shaniera is known for her active Twitter account. Recently, she shared alarming pictures of biohazardous waste which has washed ashore on Karachi’s Clifton beach and declared a “state of emergency” to shed light on the issue.
