‘K-P, FATA merger was a challenge’

'Upholding tribal culture and tradition in the transition period is biggest challenge'

PESHAWAR: Governor Shah Farman said on Tuesday the administrative merger of erstwhile FATA was completed in the shortest period of five-months, which showed the devotion and interest of the provincial government.

“No step was taken which was against or contrary to the tribal culture and tradition in the overall process of FATA merger into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa,” he said talking to participants of the 21st National Security Workshop arranged by the National Defence University during their visit to Governor House Peshawar on Tuesday.

The participants of the national security workshop consisting of parliamentarian, students, media persons and notable of the society asked governor questions pertaining to security and administrative affairs in the province.

The governor in response to the participants’ questions said that the big challenge which we faced was to uphold tribal culture and tradition in the transition period.

“Keeping in view the tribal culture, we have constituted Tribal Jirga representing tribal elders and notable person in Tribal districts aiming to ensure the tribal elder's consultation to resolve the tribal people issues and problems,” he said.
