LAHORE:

A new patient category system is to be introduced at the emergency department in Services Hospital to ensure that patients in the most serious condition are the first ones treated.

Patients admitted to the emergency ward will be tagged in categories A, B or C depending on the severity of their condition, with A being the most serious. Staff will prioritise their work accordingly.

The new system was discussed at a hospital administration meeting chaired by Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Javed on Sunday. He said that the medical officer on duty would decide what category patients fall in as they arrive at the emergency ward. Dr Javed said that a two-week refresher course was being arranged for emergency ward doctors, nurses and paramedics. He said that the entry of medical representatives from pharmaceutical companies in the emergency ward had been banned so that doctors could attend to the patients without being disturbed or interrupted.
