PML-N proposes JUI-F march delayed until November

Party’s CEC demands fresh elections in wake of deteriorating economy

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday suggested to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to defer its ‘Azadi march’ for a month to allow it to mobilise its workers for an anti-government movement.

The party leadership, in a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), also demanded fresh elections in the country as the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan had failed in the Kashmir cause, while problems were piling on the domestic front.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, who chaired the meeting, said that the business community had lost confidence in the government, while the economy was in bad shape, which posed grave challenges to national security.



PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal told reporters after the meeting that party needed time to mobilse its workers for an ant-government movement. “Majority of the participants agreed that the protest should be deferred until November,” he said.

“The PML-N needs to fully mobilise its ranks for any anti-government movement. In this regard, the party has formed divisional committees to speed up mobilisation efforts,” he said, referring to protest march planned by JUI-F this month.

Iqbal called for the immediate convening of an all-parties conference of the opposition in order to hold consultations with the parties also. Because of the deteriorating economy, the party demanded fresh election in the country.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the rupee was tumbling while hundreds of thousands of people were losing their jobs and dearness was at its peak, therefore, fresh transparent elections were necessary.



He also demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan to take parliament into confidence over his recent visit to the United Nations, particularly his meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the General Assembly last week.

Earlier, Shehbaz told the party leaders that the government has failed in the Kashmir cause. He expressed grief over the loss of lives and properties in the recent earthquake in Azad Kashmir.

With each passing day, the responsibilities of the PML-N are increasing in the wake of deteriorating economic conditions and increasing internal and external threats. “We will not disappoint the nation,” Shehbaz said.

He warned that the falling economy posed grave challenged to the national security. “The apprehensions are not because of the current situation but because of the government’s ineptness,” he alleged.

“How could the rulers protect the delicate national interests, when they are unable to protect the people from dengue and polioviruses. The government had destroyed the national economy.”
