LAHORE: The alleged illegal appointment of a protocol officer was challenged in the Lahore High Court on a plea that merit was flouted to fill the post.

Petitioner Muhammad Zahirudin Baber contended in his petition that Adeel Ashfaq was appointed as a protocol officer despite the fact that he was not the right candidate for the aforementioned post.

He pleaded in his petition that LHC advertised the vacant positions for the post in 2015 for which bachelors with second division and 10 years of experience were required.

He submitted that the petitioner holds a bachelors degree in second division and over nine years of experience and despite that Adeel Ashfaq, who holds a bachelors degree in third division and less experience than him, was appointed as a protocol officer. He pointed out in his petition that he was even called for an interview.
