Prime Minister Imran Khan briefed on Tuesday his New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Ardern on the prevailing situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) during a meeting on the sidelines of 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Narendra Modi-led government stripped the IOK of its decades-long special autonomy last month along with imposing severe restrictions including communication blockade and curfew.

According to a statement by the PM Office, the premier briefed Ardern on the plight of Kashmiris and the danger of a massacre in the occupied valley.

He appreciated her role following the deadly Christchurch attack in July this year in which 50 people including six Pakistani nationals were killed and dozens injured.

"The challenge of anti-Muslim sentiment and Islamophobia [in the west]," was also discussed in the meeting.

PM Imran's UNGA address is scheduled for September 27.
