NAB gets Shah’s remand

HYDERABAD: An accountability court in Sukkur granted nine-day physical remand on Saturday of Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah to National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Shah was arrested from Islamabad on Thursday in assets beyond means case.

NAB produced the MNA before Judge Ameer Ali Mahesar for the remand. During the hearing, Shah’s counsel argued that he is being subjected to political victimisation and that his arrest is an attempt to divert the public’s attention from the Kashmir, inflation and other national issues. “A similar probe was conducted against Shah in 2014 but NAB had to quash those cases.”

The NAB prosecutor maintained that Shah was not cooperating with the bureau in an ongoing investigation against him owing to which NAB decided to arrest the MNA. The hearing was deferred for over half an hour as the court gave time to NAB Sukkur to submit the case file before the court could grant remand of Shah. The bureau was directed to produce him before the court on October 1.
