Special courts set up for disabled persons in Sindh

KARACHI: With the approval of the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, the Sindh government has established special courts for persons with disabilities in all districts of the province.

Speaking in this regard, Special Assistant to Sindh CM on Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar said on Saturday, "each of these courts has been authorised to try offences under sub-section 1 of Section 33 of The Sindh Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act 2018."

These courts will work to facilitate the disabled, he added. Qamar said that so far, DEPD officials have taken various initiatives, including the issuance of special CNICs and disability certificates, implementation of five per cent job quota for special persons in public and private sectors and the construction of ramps and special washrooms in public and private buildings, to help persons with disabilities lead a better life.
