LAHORE: A special bench of the anti-narcotics court on Friday rejected a bail plea of senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah in the narcotics case.

The court, however, accepted bail pleas of five of his aides, who were co-accused in the case.

A judge has not been appointed to hear the case so special central judge Khalid Bashir conducted the hearing.
Speaking to the media, Sanaullah’s wife said she was glad that bail pleas of her husband’s aides had been accepted.

“Sanaullah is a righteous and truthful person. We will now file a bail request in the Lahore High Court,” she added.
In July this year, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had arrested Sanaullah for allegedly carrying 15 kilogrammes of heroin in his vehicle and having links with drug traffickers.

Sanaullah, who also served as the Punjab law minister during the previous PML-N government, was arrested by ANF’s Lahore team from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Sukheki. He was travelling from Faisalabad to Lahore.

The opposition parties had strongly reacted after his arrest. However, the ANF was of the view that it never arrested anyone without a reason.

According to the ANF, Sanaullah was arrested after a huge quantity of drugs was recovered from his vehicle.

A close aide of the Sharif brothers, Sanaullah, was elected member of the National Assembly from Faisalabad in July 2018 general elections. He was appointed as the PML-N Punjab president in May this year.
