Child abuse cases are a result of police negligence: CM Buzdar

Says suspensions are not enough and police officers not performing their duties will be taken to task

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Friday stated that the child abuse cases in Chunian tehsil in Kasur were a result of police negligence.

Upon reaching Lahore after performing Umrah, the chief minister called a high-level meeting at the Allama Iqbal Airport where he was presented the preliminary findings of the joint investigation team constituted to look into the case.

Buzdar stressed over the need to work on an emergency basis to fix police incompetence.

Bodies of three minor boys were discovered from Chunian industrial area on Tuesday. One of the children was kidnapped two days ago, while the other two had been kidnapped two months ago. Another kidnapped child is still missing.

“I will not tolerate any negligent police officer and anyone who doesn’t work will be fired,” he said adding that suspensions were not enough and those police officers who are not performing their duties should be taken to task.

The minister added that the police did not take immediate action over the disappearance of the three children and the situation could have been avoided if the investigation had been initiated timely.

The chief minister ordered additional police personnel to be deployed to find the culprits and demanded that such incidents should not repeat.

Provincial Minister Raja Mohammad Basharat, Inspector General Police Arif Nawaz Khan and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
