Fans noticed Pakistani-British star Zayn Malik was absent for a very family special occasion that got many wondering why he didn't attend.

The former member of One Direction was a no-show at his younger sister's Nikkah ceremony which took place in England.

Safaa Malik tied the knot with her now-husband Martin, donning a beautiful red and gold lehenga with a ruby-coloured maang tikka headpiece while the groom was seen in a white shalwar kameez. The 17-year old got married just a week after her birthday.

The newlyweds are seen cutting the cake, showing off their new rings (along with the gorgeous mehndi on the bride's hands) and smiling.

While the singer skipped the family event, his ex-flame Gigi Hadid did not shy away from showing support. The American-Palestinian model gave well-wishes for the teenager by liking their mother Trisha’s post on Instagram.

Gigi Hadid sued for posting photo of Zayn Malik

The circulating pictures that were posed by Zayn’s mother showed the bride radiating alongside Martin.  Other family members including her two elder sisters Waliya and Doniya were present in the shares, all while big brother was nowhere to be seen.

"My baby girls big day," Trisha captioned the post.

Zayn has had a rough year after his high-profile whirlwind romance with Gigi ended eight months ago. Reportedly, feelings remained months after the split after the singer tweeted that he loved Gigi still in March. In April, he went off on Twitter when fans thought some angry tweets he sent about someone not being “the person you said you were” were about the model.

Zayn is reportedly in New York currently.
