Shahbaz Gill, a former spokesperson to Punjab chief minister who resigned from his post last week, was removed on the request of Usman Buzdar, senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Naeemul Haque has revealed.

Gill stepped down from his post on Friday whereas provincial adviser Awn Chaudhry, a close aide to Prime Minister Imran Khan was also sacked, a development which took many by surprise.

Haque's statement has validated the speculations that the Punjab CM's spokesperson was asked to step down by the chief minister.

Sources had claimed that Buzdar removed Gill from his post for "transgressing his boundaries and promoting himself instead of his boss".

Gill, who had a knack for being in the media limelight, was allowed the opportunity to submit his resignation to avoid embarrassment, the sources added.

“The Punjab chief minister had some reservations with Shahbaz Gill, and he was removed from the post on his [Usman Buzdar] request," Haque can be heard saying in a video circulated on social media on Sunday.

We will try assigning him some important role in the federal government, he added.

Meanwhile, Gill said Buzdar was chosen by PM Imran and "we all respect the decision".
