Anti-Corruption Police arrest wanted suspect in fraud case on Saturday

RAWALPINDI: While the nation cries hoarse over Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir, people continue consuming Indian goods giving boost to smuggling and illegal trade.

The demand for Indian dish channels and tobacco products is so high that Customs seized Rs70 million worth of Indian items in a single raid. Two trucks loaded with smuggled Indian cloth and other items were seized last weekend near Kalar Kahar interchange. Acting on a tip-off, Customs Rawalpindi raided a warehouse and seized Indian items worth Rs70 million in Dhok Hassu.

The raiding team was led by customs collector Seema Bukhari, who carried out the action in Dhok Hassu and recovered smuggled transit items including Indian made dish antennas and receivers and other electronic items.

However, the owner of the warehouse managed to escape before the team’s arrival. The customs department has registered a case against the suspect.

Missing girl returned

A grade nine student who mysteriously vanished from her house’s roof in Dhok Shiraz reappeared suddenly on Saturday.

Civil Lines Police was probing into the matter and arrested a boy from the neighboring house. The suspect was allegedly beaten up during the investigation and was still in police custody.

The victim’s father, Muhammad Sadiq, said that his daughter had returned and they did not want to pursue the case any further.

Meanwhile, the victim did not make claim that any illicit activity took place with her.

Wanted arrest

Rawalpindi Anti-Corruption Police arrested a wanted suspect in a fraud case on Saturday.

The suspect Azhar Hussain, was charged with fraud, and theft of Rs130 million and a case was registered against him in January, 2018.

According to the police, the Circle Officer (CO) Inspector Amjad Shehzad carried out a raid in Chakwal and arrested the suspect.

The suspect had acquired a large amount from traders and businessmen against forged documents of plots and shops.

In another case, the department has started probing into charges of misuse of power against its own officials on a written complaint by secretary of, Taxation and Narcotics Control department. The officials were accused of misusing power with ex-Excise Technician Officer (ETO) of Rawalpindi Excise department as well as illegal assets. The related official has been demoted to OSD while two excise inspectors, considered to be his right hand, have also been taken under investigation.

Similarly, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi is close completing its investigation against anti-corruption department on 5,000 vehicles of army auction. The bureau has acquired all essential records and a number of high officials are expected to be arrested soon.

Jail visit

The Parliamentary Secretary for Jails, Raja Sagheer visited Adyala Jail for inspection on Saturday.

During his visit with MPA Chaudrhy Sajid, the officials examined kitchen, infants ward and barracks in the jail thoroughly while they were also briefed by jail officials regarding the operations. The officials expressed satisfaction over provision of clean drinking water, cleanliness and other services being provided to inmates.

Firing incident

DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed has taken notice of firing incident in Shehzad Town which left three people injured. Rural Zone SP Malik Naeem Iqbal has been directed to ensure immediate arrest of suspects.

All three injured in the incident were shifted to Polyclinic Hospital. SHO Shehzad Town reached the site along with police force and seized the car used by the suspects.

According to Islamabad Police, the incident was a result of old enmity while the cases against the suspects were being registered.
