Motorway police suggests ban on Indian content in public transport

PEMRA also wants to restrict content spreading hatred over religious differences

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad motorway police on Saturday suggested an immediate ban on displaying Indian content in all public service vehicles (PSVs) amid the current political situation between Pakistan and India.

According to a notification issued by the office of Motorway Zone, a passenger approached authorities concerned and complained that the Indian content displayed in PSVs is ‘objectionable’.

“It is strongly suggested that all PSV companies must strictly be directed to put an immediate ban on such objectionable content specially the Indian movies amid Pakistan-India current political situation as well as cultural differences,” the notification stated.

The notification further suggested that content spreading hatred of having religious differences must also be restricted at once.

“In this respect, PEMRA may also be approached for appropriate action in the matter on their part,” it added.



Earlier, Pakistan said it would ban the screening of Indian films in the country’s cinemas, as tensions between the two countries rise over the contested Kashmir region.

“No Indian cinema will be screened in any Pakistani cinema. Drama, films and Indian content of this kind will be completely banned in Pakistan,” Firdous Ashiq Awan, an adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said.

After the government announced the banning of Indian films from its cinemas across the nation, members of the Indian film fraternity say it does not make any difference to India and that it is Pakistans loss.

However, Indian trade analyst Komal Nahta told IANS that, strictly from the business point of view, the ban will affect the box-office.
