ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have shared values and are tied in Islamic bonds which need to be further cemented by boosting existing economic cooperation between the two countries, said Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan.

Speaking in a meeting with Uzbekistan Ambassador Furqat Sidiqov, who called on the minister at his office on Friday, Khan said Pakistan wanted to take benefit of energy sources of Uzbekistan, especially its huge gas reserves.

He revealed that he was scheduled to attend a meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (Carec) programme at Tashkent beginning September 20, where he would meet his Uzbek counterpart and discuss prospects of cooperation between the two counties in the energy sector.
