LAHORE:

Former Pakistan coach Mike Pirrit has confirmed that he accompanied a depleted team that finished fourth in the Asian Five Nation (A5N) Rugby Tournament Division III in Jakarta.

The Express Tribune had reported that several key players were missing due to an internal rift over selection, as well as visa problems, because of which the Pakistan Rugby Union was forced to select a weakened team. 12 players were on course to be selected, but left the team in protest over the exclusion of a senior player.

“I accompanied a depleted squad to the tournament even though we had players with sufficient potential to win,” Piritt told The Express Tribune.

Pakistan’s campaign started off well as they led 7-0 against Indonesia before they allowed the hosts to hit back. Indonesia won 20-19 while Team Guam also defeated Pakistan 37-10.
