LAHORE: Sustainable and durable economic stability is prerequisite for survival of the country and strengthening of democracy, said South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Chamber of Commerce and Industry Senior Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik.

He urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government to take all stakeholders in confidence to tailor a viable strategy aimed at devising result and growth- oriented economic policies for economic revival, in a statement issued Monday.

Malik lamented that despite assurances of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and other top leaders of the corporate sector were not taken on board by policy and decision makers.

He stressed upon the need for reshaping economic policy in line with global recession to help restore the confidence of foreign and local investors.

“At this critical juncture, the government must aid the business community and offer incentives to small and medium traders,” he said. “All developed and advanced countries including US, South Korea, China, France, Germany and Russia have attached great importance to promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are significant for strengthening of the economy.”

He urged the government to conduct market research to find new destinations for Pakistani products which were best in the world in terms of quality and price. APP
