ISLAMABAD: A basic health unit (BHU) of Phulgaran in Bharakahu has become threat to public health.

Low rank employees are running the BHU, while the officially stationed doctors and paramedical staff were drawing salaries without working there.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Gohar Wazir made a surprise visit to the BHU to discover that Phulgaran BHU was locked during official working hours.

The AC instructed the gatekeeper to call the staff. After several calls on mobile phones, four employees BPS 4 showed up, who apparently run the unit.

The doctors of BHU did not even pick the call.

Further, when AC inquired the locals about the healthcare facility, they complained that it was operating with very little facilities and staff remained absent quite often.

They lamented that staff usually misbehaved with the poor patients too.

The AC prepared a report regarding the related health unit and stated that it was being run by four BPS-4 employees while the doctors did not bother to come. He added that the staff was not punctual and left their offices before off-hours.

The AC highlighted that there was no maintenance of record in BHU.

Moreover, Gohar Wazir told The Express Tribune that he had sent the report to higher authorities and they would soon initiate an action against those who committed carelessness.
