MULTAN: People would least suspect that the very healthcare institutions meant to protect their wellbeing could become a cause for the spread of diseases. Nishtar Medical University Hospital’s central canteen is in the doldrums after relatives of a patient, admitted in the hospital, found worms in their sandwiches that were purchased, on Thursday, from the hospital’s central canteen.

When the complaint about sandwiches was received, Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) Dr Nabil raided the canteen with the security supervisor and found old vegetables and rotten fruits stored in an unclean freezer. The DMS also discovered that food was being prepared in a very filthy environment.

In this regard, the DMS informed Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Shahid Bukhari who visited the canteen with the DMS. However, instead of sealing the canteen, the MS issued minor fines and warnings while a case has been sent to the Punjab Food Authority to check the quality of food in the canteen.
