PESHAWAR: A provincial parliamentary health panel on Wednesday called for the early hiring of specialists including a radiologist and a cardiologist in the Timergarah District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) as it reviewed health issues in the southern Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) district.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Standing Committee on Health met on Wednesday with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) reserved seat MPA Dr Sumaira Shams in the chair. It was briefed about the working and performance of the Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) by the institute’s director.

The committee members expressed their satisfaction over the working of the teaching institute and said that a visible improvement has been witnessed in the working of the hospital.

K-P Health Special Secretary Dr Farooq Jamil said that a summary has been dispatched to the provincial Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra regarding queries of Dr Aamir Taj.

He said that a decision from the relevant authorities is awaited and soon members of the committee will be informed about its outcome.

Dr Shams directed the health department to appoint a radiologist and a cardiologist in the Timergarah District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) at the earliest.

She also expressed dissatisfaction over the Samarbagh Tehsil Hospital administration’s failure in effectively utilising installed equipment.

She directed officials to make their best efforts to utilise the health equipment for the benefit of the ailing community.

The meeting was assured that a radiologist will be soon appointed in the DHQ.

To a question from PTI MPA Musawir Khan about the provision of funds to tehsil hospitals, the Health Special Secretary Dr Jamil said that a summary has been sent to the finance department in that regard.
