Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Liaqat Ali Malik requested the CCPO for time scale promotion of traffic wardens. According to a letter forwarded to the CCPO, wardens have been working on the same scale, grade 14, for the past ten years.

Reportedly, the Lahore traffic police have only 215 seats for senior traffic wardens while the number of wardens recruited in the first and second batches is more than 2,800. Promoting wardens to a senior rank seems impossible in the coming four to five years due to the unavailability of seats, the letter explained.

The letter put forth the recommendation that the first and second batches of traffic wardens should be promoted to the next grade under the time scale promotion rules. After receiving time scale promotions, personnel will get the next grade privileges while performing duties as traffic wardens.

CTO Liaqat Ali Malik said that according to the rolls, after 10-year service, the time scale promotion of personnel was an employee’s right. He maintained that wardens would perform duties with diligence and dedication after being promoted which would ultimately help improve the traffic control in the provincial capital.

He was of the view that check and balance along with encouragement were necessary for the force.
