PESHAWAR: The provincial chief of the ANP has terminated the basic party membership of one senior party leader while another has been issued show-cause notice over party discipline issues.

Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President Aimal Wali Khan abolished the basic party membership of senior party leader Abdul Latif Afridi for failing to reply to the show-cause notices issued on him.

In a statement released by ANP’s central secretariat - Bacha Khan Markaz - on Monday it said that the ANP leader had been served notices on August 23 for allegedly violating party discipline.

Afridi, though, failed to reply to the notices. As a result, the statement said that the ANP member’s basic party membership was terminated under Section 27 of Chapter 3 of the party’s constitution.

Separately, Aimal issued a show-cause notice to Senator Sitara Ayaz for allegedly promoting grouping and using the party for personal benefits.

The notice read that Senator Ayaz had been elected on an ANP ticket having previously served as a member of the provincial assembly and provincial minister on the party ticket.

The notice said that the party “conferred honour and respect on her on every occasion but, unfortunately, you are violating the party discipline from some time and according to district organization and other sources you are promoting grouping in the party.”
