LAHORE: Actor-model Sofia Mirza filed on Monday a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over a 'malicious social media campaign' being run against her.

Reports that surfaced earlier in the day suggested she had allegedly been accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of money laundering, ransom and kidnapping.

However, Mirza denied all such allegations, terming them rumours and hearsay propagated by her ex-husband Umar Farooq Zahoor.

Various news outlets also ran that the country's apex anti-graft body had requested FIA's director general to take immediate action against her.

Talking to The Express Tribune, she said, "A malicious campaign is being run against me on social media."

She denied receiving any notice from NAB, adding that her husband was running a criminal network in Dubai.

In the application submitted to the FIA, the actress requested the cybercrime wing to take action against the campaign.

She also called for websites running the fake news to issue an apology.

"This campaign is being run against me to malign my image as the recovery case of my children is currently being heard in the Lahore High Court," the statement read.

Mirza claimed that her ex-husband was wanted by Pakistani authorities as well.
