Cross-border attack: 2 senior Taliban commanders killed in Upper Dir

The commanders were killed during clashes when more than 100 militants from Afghanistan attacked areas in Upper Dir.

PESHAWAR: Two senior Afghan militant commanders were killed during clashes with security forces in Upper Dir, officials said on Thursday.

The two commanders, who were identified as Abu Musa and Omar Tariq, were killed during clashes when more than 100 militants from Afghanistan attacked the village of Kharaa in Nusrat Darra area of Upper Dir on Wednesday.

The body of Abu Musa was recovered and shifted to FC headquarters.

The attack took place early Wednesday morning with at least a hundred militants moving in from Afghanistan, said an official from Peshawar.

At least twelve militants were killed, while three were apprehended in the operation against the Afghan militants in the Upper Dir area.

FO expresses concern

Pakistan has expressed concern over Afghan-based militants launching cross-border raids into Pakistan.

Spokesperson for the Foreign Office Tehmina Janjua says ISAF has been asked to convene immediate meetings between regional commanders to diffuse the situation created by militants.

As along as we act as a front line state in the fight against terrorism and fight someones' elses war we should be raedy to accept such like incidents in the future also. Why do we not mourne the death of those killed in the drone attacks. We as a nation will have to pay the cost of fighting this war. The only way out is to stop all this.

Hay guys have you heard about more than 800 rockets fired by Pak army into Afghan terratory, killed more than 100 innocent Afghans, children and women? I am sure you haven't heard about, because Pakistan has banned free media.

The militants, who are crossing Af-pak borders are all pakistani terrorists, have been living and growing in Pakistan for years.

So, it's the flame of that fire which pakistan had imposed on Afghanistan and now it is burnning its own soil.

We have a good idiom in Afghanistan that "The digger of well is already into it."

Imran | 13 years ago | Reply This is typical American playbook, invade a country, spend billions, spill blood, get your soldiers killed in thousands, achieve nothing and when public pressure builds to quit the war ,find scapegoats ( Pakistan in this case), expand the war into other countries ( Cambodia, anyone?) and then quit. All this just to keep Military-Industrial complex humming.

DarkStar(Karachi) | 13 years ago | Reply Other news sources mention that the Afghan terrorists were wearing uniforms of the Afghan National Army. Can we be so sure that those attacking us were not in fact the Afghan army? We have seen constant incursions into Pakistan territory by the Afghans over the past few weeks, with them entering villages and destroying schools, hospitals and firing at and killing civilians indiscriminately. It seems our enemies want to crush us with the pincer movement of the TTP and Afghan Army (militants), while prodding us to make enemies of the only pro-Pakistan Afghan group, i.e. the Haqqani Taliban.
