Floods 2010: ‘UN will concentrate on affected areas’

UN had initially launched an appeal for $459 million for flood relief, but later increased the amount to $1.93 billion

ISLAMABAD:
The United Nations will concentrate on the recovery of areas affected by last year’s flash floods, said Special Envoy of UN Secretary General for Assistance to Pakistan Rauf Soysal. He added that the post-relief operation will prioritise on education, health, infrastructure and agriculture. Soysal said that the UN will continue its work in flood-affected areas of the country to provide people with basic necessities. While in a meeting with Managing Director Associated Press of Pakistan Mohammad Riaz on Wednesday, he said that the UN had initially launched an appeal for $459 million for flood relief, but later increased the amount to $1.93 billion.
