PESHAWAR: The district administration on Friday confiscated some 200 kilogrammes of polythene bags during a crackdown in Peshawar.

Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Asghar had directed Town-I Assistant Commissioner Asif Iqbal to take action against the polythene bags in the area, levelling penalties against violators.

Asghar said that a ban has been imposed on plastic bags in the province on the directives of K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and that polythene bag manufacturers, importers, warehouses and stores have been issued repeated warnings about dealing in the contraband.

“We have imposed Section-144 against polythene bags in the provincial capital, while we have also conducted awareness campaigns in the city, but a few violators fail to listen. That is why we are taking action,” Iqbal explained in a statement on Friday. He added that they have zero tolerance for such violators.
