KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly adopted a resolution on Friday, asking the provincial government to approach the relevant authorities in order to ensure the compliance of the production order for Pakistan Peoples Party's incarcerated MPA Faryal Talpur, who has recently been shifted from the hospital to Adiala Jail. The resolution, moved by PPP MPA Syeda Marvi Faseeh, was opposed by members of the joint opposition.
In her resolution, which was not on the agenda, the MPA said that the provincial assembly was the custodian of the rights of people of Sindh and its rules of procedure empowered the speaker and chairperson of the respective standing committee to issue production orders of its members to ensure their attendance in the session.
Referring to the Sindh Assembly's production order, she said, "The speaker of this house has issued production orders for MPA Faryal Talpur on August 16. However, the authorities addressed in the production order have failed to comply with it. It is a breach of privilege of a member if he or she is not brought to this house."
During the session, the provincial assembly did not take up its regular agenda, except the question and answers. The adjournment motion on the law and order situation and call-attention notices submitted by various MPAs were also deferred. The house, which met for an hour and 26 minutes, took up two out of seven questions related to the energy department.
Responding to a question about the production of biogas in the province, energy minister Imtiaz Shaikh said that a pilot project has been prepared to provide 150 biogas plants in Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Shikarpur, Larkana and suburban areas of Karachi to produce gas for cooking purposes in small households. "After successful completion of the pilot project, the installation of biogas plants will be expedited in other parts of Sindh," he said.
The session also witnessed allegations and counter-allegations leveled by the opposition and treasury members against each other. After a few minutes discussion, the speaker adjourned the session till August 26.
