Six die of dengue fever this year

Health dept reports 1,239 cases during January-August period

KARACHI: Sindh health department informed the Sindh chief minister on Tuesday that in the past eight months, 1,239 dengue fever cases were reported across Sindh. According to the health department, six patients out of these did not survive.

A report submitted to the CM Secretariat by Health Secretary Saeed Awan, stated that these cases were reported from January 20, 2019 to August 20, 2019. Of the reported cases, 167 were from Central district, 147 from East district, 141 from South, 155 from West, 69 from Malir and 52 cases were reported from Korangi district.

Meanwhile, 14 cases were reported in Hyderabad, four in Mirpurkhas, two in Tando Allahyar and Matiari each, one case each in Dadu, Tharparkar, Sanghar and Nausheroferoze. Besides, two cases each were reported from Qambar Shahadkot, Sukkur and Shikarpur districts, three in Jacabobad and Shaheed Benazirabad each, four cases each in Ghotki, Khairpur and Kashmore, and 464 cases from unspecified districts.

According to the report, there were 207 cases reported in August alone.

The report specified that of the six deaths, one was from Malir, one in West district, two in Korangi, one in South and one in East district.

The CM directed the health department to launch an awareness drive through the dengue programme so that people take precautionary measures. He also directed the local government department to begin fumigation in the province with the coordination of local bodies.
