India's Ministry of External Affairs announced on Tuesday that United Arab Emirates (UAE) would honor Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the highest civilian award during his visit on August 23-24, reported Khaleej Times.

During his visit, the premier will receive the Zayed Medal – the highest civil decoration of UAE which was conferred earlier in April 2019 to Modi for boosting bilateral ties between the two countries.

“The award in the name of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, acquires special significance as it was awarded to Prime Minister Modi in the year of the birth centenary of Sheikh Zayed," said a statement by the ministry.

The premier will discuss bilateral, regional and international matters of interest with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Indian PM Modi visits UAE to boost bilateral ties

Modi is scheduled to travel to Bahrain - which will be the first-ever trip by an Indian prime minister to the Gulf state.

He will address the Indian community and hold talks with the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to discuss bilateral ties, as well as issues of mutual interest.

"With a robust flow of bilateral investments and an annual bilateral trade of about $60 billion, the UAE is our third-largest trade partner. Also, the UAE is the fourth-largest exporter of crude oil for India. A 3.3 million-strong vibrant Indian community in the UAE nourishes the vibrant people-to-people contacts between our two friendly countries. The visit would further strengthen our friendly bilateral ties with the UAE,” the statement read.

Modi also plans to begin the renovation process of Shreenathji (Shree Krishna) temple in Manama.

“The visit will provide an opportunity to further cement our mutually beneficial bilateral ties with Bahrain,” the statement said.
