An epic battle between favourite Marvel characters could be in store for Avengers and X-Men fans. Reportedly, Marvel Studios is planning to introduce the latter to its universe in a very big way.

Initially, studio president Kevin Feige announced the mutants would become a part of the franchise during a Comic-Con panel last month but did not go into more details at the time, reported The Independent.

According to We Got This Covered, however, their induction will clash with the return of the Avengers. The entertainment website revealed a source who correctly predicted an Avengers vs X-Men film is “on the cards”.

The insider added the blockbuster film will probably not arrive until the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 6, which is expected to begin in mid-2020.

This new crew will include old favourites such as Thor who is played by Australian star Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Witch and The Guardians but will also have newcomers in the form of Natalie Portman’s Lady Thor and Black Panther star Mahershala Ali’s Blade.

Disney also revealed it will release Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth film in the franchise, in November 2021. Portman, who starred in earlier films as the girlfriend to Hemsworth’s Thor, will take up the superhero’s hammer as a female goddess of thunder.

While an Avengers vs X-Men film is reportedly being earmarked for Phase 6, other reports have predicted Wolverine, the mutant character made famous by Hugh Jackman, will appear as early as Phase 5.

The announcements at the San Diego Comic-Con last month charted Marvel’s course following mega-blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which topped 2009 film Avatar as the highest-grossing film of all time.
