Commissioner says govt is assessing damages

DERA GHAZI KHAN: At least eight people were killed in a hill torrent caused by heavy rains in Koh-e-Sulaiman.

DG Khan Commissioner Khan Mudassir Riaz Malik said the Punjab government has announced aid for locals whose houses and crops were destroyed in flash floods.

Punjab Health Adviser Muhammad Hanif Khan Pitafi and RPO Imran Ahmar also gave a media briefing. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Syed Moosa Raza was present.

While briefing the media, the commissioner said eight people died due to a hill torrent and flash flood in Sanghars and Mithan as a result of the heavy rains in Koh-e-Sulaiman. “There is no substitute for human lives. The government is ascertaining the volume of financial losses caused by the floods.

Rains bring glad tidings for fishermen

He said Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar approved a scheme worth Rs3 billion for the city's mega sewerage scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Patafi said after the approval of the provincial cabinet, the mega project would be completed in the city within one year. Meanwhile, during the three days of Eid, 410 tonnes of offal was collected from the city and 100 tonnes from Taunsa. Initially, Rs250 million has been approved for the solid waste management of DG Khan out of which Rs120 million has been released.

Regional Police Officer Imran Ahmar said 1,328 Eid prayer gatherings were held in mosques, Eidgahs and open spaces in DG Khan division. Around 3,300 policemen were deployed for the security of Eid gatherings.
