CM seeks report on spike in road fatalities

Traffic accidents during Eid holidays resulted in multiple fatalities & injuries, caused traffic blockages

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan taking serious notice of spike in deaths due to traffic accidents has summoned a high-level meeting to review the traffic management system.’

In a letter issued to the police department by the CM secretariat, it was pointed out that traffic accidents during the Eidul Azha holidays not only resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries but also caused traffic blockages causing a nuisance for public and tourists at large.

According to the letter, the chief minister has ordered a fact-finding inquiry into the matter within three days along with fixing of responsibility for negligence, if any. Furthermore, the Chief Minister has also directed to develop an effective enforcement plan for traffic and other relevant laws during routine holidays.

As per reports published in various media outlets and reports of hospitals administrations about traffic incidents in Peshawar, various deaths and serious injuries were reported. Most of these incidents, as per record of the hospitals, involved riders of motorbikes.
