HARIPUR: The provincial archaeology department on Wednesday inaugurated its regional office in the Nakra Bangla area of Khanpur.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Raja Shahab Sikandar said that their forefathers had rendered matchless sacrifices for the country and if someone knows the value of independence, it would be best known to residents of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Archeology Department Assistant Director Nooruddin Khan said that after the devolution of the department to the province after the 18th Amendment, they had decided to open up a regional office in Khanpur area of Haripur for closer monitoring of existing and exploration of new archaeological sites.

Shedding light on the significance of the area, Nooruddin said that the Hazara division was once an area where Buddhism flourished.
