Safe City project to help modernise policing: IGP

Says funds will be released for completion of Rawalpindi and DG Khan Safe City projects

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan has said the Safe City is a state-of-the-art project of smart and community policing. He added it has proven to be helpful in controlling crime, traffic management, surveillance and has also boosted police performance.

He expressed these views while issuing orders to officers during the 5th meeting of the Safe City Management Committee on Friday.

The IGP said the relevant circle officer would respond to 15 calls about cases of violence against women and children, rape, and blasphemy. He added Punjab Police data with PITB would be transferred to the Safe City till September 30.

He further said that the finance department would be requested to release funds at the earliest for the completion of Rawalpindi and DG Khan Safe City projects.

He also directed officers to further improve the Crisis Management Centre at Safe City Qurban Lines so that floods, elections and any other emergency can be managed. He said Qurban Lines would be used as a centre and also release information to the media.

During the meeting, IG Punjab issued orders to continue the issuance of e-challans via Safe City cameras and also launch an awareness campaign on traffic laws.

He also said that in the new Safe City projects, police response and rescue forces should also work jointly following the SOPs of Lahore Safe City Authority. The IGP continued this would enable effective coordination in emergency conditions and help tackle crime, terrorism or traffic accidents. Safe City MD Ali Amir Malik, CCPO Lahore BA Nasir, Safe City DIG Kamran Khan, Safe City CEO Akbar Nasir Khan and other senior officers were present.
