MIR ALI: A man was injured when the vehicle he was driving came under a gun attack by unidentified assailants in the Ghesori village in North Waziristan on Thursday.

A local told The Express Tribune over the phone that the man was driving a van belonging to a local non-governmental organization (NGO) which is working on women development in the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata).

He added that the driver was returning after dropping off the NGO workers in the local community in Ghesori village when it came under attack.

The female staffers were not in the vehicle at that time of the attack while the driver and the vehicle suffered extensive damage. Nearby shops were also struck by the bullets which were sprayed by the assailants.

Locals rushed the injured man to the North Waziristan District Headquarters hospital for treatment. There, his condition was described as stable by doctors.

DSP Azam Khan confirmed the attack, stating that the NGO has been working on women’s health, and issues related to women in the newly-merged district. He, however, did not confirm whether the attack was motivated by any personal enmity or due to any other reason.

He added that after receiving information about the attack, they conducted an operation in the area, but no arrests were reported.
